  1. Diu:

The former Portuguese colony is a union territory that has a long and storied history. Today, it is one of the prominent weekend destinations thanks to its vibrant beaches and historic monuments. Diu has one foot in the past in the form of historic structures and another in vibrant markets and tourist-packed beaches. You can either choose to explore Diu’s Portuguese history by visiting places like the 17th-century baroque structure St. Paul’s Church and Diu Fort. If you are looking for some natural places to explore, you can head towards the Naida Caves (found within the Diu Fort), which has unique coloured rocks. The maze-type formation of the caves is an absolute delight for the explorer. Apart from that, the step-like formation and intricate tunnel networks are fun to climb. If you want to visit the beaches you can spend time at Ghoghla, Nagoa and Jallandhar beaches. If you want to explore the rich wildlife, you can pay a visit to the Gir National Park, where you get a chance to interact with creatures like the golden jackal, Indian grey mongoose, Asiatic wildcat, blackbucks and Asiatic lions.

  1. Kochi:

One of Kerala’s popular cities, Kochi like Diu is a delightful mix of the past and modern. Things that make Kochi one of the popular weekend destinations are its fishing nets, Dutch and Portuguese styled structures, mosques and churches. You could first visit the Mattancherry Palace, which is also referred to as Dutch Palace. Dating back to 1557, amongst the palace’s prominent features is the courtyard that has a temple that honours Bhagavati, who, legend has it, is the guardian deity of Kochi. Then, you can choose to visit the 16th-century CE structure Paradesi Synagogue, which is one of the city’s iconic attractions. The synagogue is known for its rich collection of silver and gold crowns, copper plates, chandeliers created using Belgian glass and carved teak ark that comes with four scrolls of Torah.

  1. Goa:

Goa will be the answer if you were to ask Mumbaikars the place they would like to choose for weekend destinations. The former Portuguese colony is known to attract travellers from not only India but also from all over the world. At Colva Beach and Palolem Beach, you can opt to participate in activities like kayaking, swimming, jet-skiing, banana boat riding and scuba diving.

Here is hoping that you have a memorable time on the cruise ship for one of the aforementioned weekend destinations. Please contact a cruise operator if you have questions.
